Victoria Aveyard is a bestselling author best known for creating the powerful and gripping Red Queen series. Born and raised in the small town of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, Victoria always had a big imagination. Her love for storytelling started at an early age, and over the years, that passion only grew stronger. Today, she is recognized as one of the most exciting voices in young adult fantasy literature.

After finishing high school in Massachusetts, Victoria moved across the country to attend the University of Southern California (USC), where she studied screenwriting. She graduated in 2012 with a degree that would shape much of her creative career. While many graduates search for jobs or internships, Victoria did something different—she went home and wrote a book.

That book would become Red Queen, her debut novel and the first title in a fantasy series that would take the YA world by storm. She wrote it in just one year after graduation. When the book was released in 2015 by HarperTeen, it quickly climbed bestseller lists and received critical acclaim. The novel’s mix of royal intrigue, magical powers, and deep emotional conflict captured the attention of young readers everywhere. Soon after, Victoria signed a three-book deal with HarperCollins, and the Red Queen universe began to grow.

But Victoria’s talent isn’t limited to novels. Before she became a published author, she worked in Hollywood and was involved in film development. She searched for self-published books on Amazon that could be turned into films. That experience taught her a lot about what makes a story work—and it also gave her the idea to write one herself. She knew that if she wanted to find something truly unique, she’d have to create it.

A huge fan of sci-fi and fantasy films, Victoria has often said that her writing is influenced by the movies she grew up watching. She’s a self-proclaimed film nerd who fell in love with stories like Jurassic Park, Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, and Independence Day. These epic worlds and characters sparked her creativity and helped her imagine stories of her own. In fact, the idea for Red Queen was inspired by the X-Men franchise. She was fascinated by the concept of people with extraordinary powers being feared, controlled, and then rising up. That same spirit runs through Mare Barrow’s journey.

While still studying at USC, Victoria pitched her Red Queen idea during a meeting at a production company called Benderspink. The producers saw potential and encouraged her to write it as a novel. She returned to East Longmeadow, and over the course of a year, she crafted the first draft. With the help of Benderspink, she found a literary agent and landed a publishing deal—along with a film option from Universal Pictures.

The success of Red Queen didn’t just stop at the bookstore. It also caught the attention of Hollywood. Universal was quick to option the movie rights, and Victoria has even been involved in the development of the script. Her experience as a screenwriter has given her a rare advantage—she understands how stories translate both on the page and on the screen. In addition to Red Queen, she has also worked with Sony Pictures on a separate film project called Eternal.

Since 2015, Victoria has written multiple books in the Red Queen series, including Glass Sword, King’s Cage, and War Storm. Each novel continues to explore a dangerous world divided by blood—Red and Silver—and follows the fierce heroine Mare Barrow as she challenges the system, struggles with her powers, and navigates love, betrayal, and rebellion.

Victoria’s writing is known for its fast-paced action, emotional depth, and powerful female lead. Her stories are filled with twists and turns, making her books hard to put down. But what makes her work truly special is how she blends fantasy with very real human emotions—fear, hope, courage, and heartbreak. Readers all over the world connect with Mare’s struggles and victories because they reflect our own desire for justice, identity, and change.

Today, Victoria continues to write new stories and expand her creative projects. Whether it’s in books or on screen, she’s passionate about creating worlds that inspire and challenge readers. Her journey—from a film-obsessed kid in Massachusetts to an international bestselling author—is proof that stories really do have the power to change lives.
