About the Bride Series
The Bride series by Ali Hazelwood has a way of telling a paranormal romance story that makes you feel how complicated love can be & just how hard peace is to come by. Set in a world of Vampyres, Weres & Humans, where trust is always in short supply – and for good reason – each of these stories has a level of tension that’s always simmering just below the surface. Like with any love story, it’s not just about romance – it’s about power, fear, and getting through each day. And even though each book follows a different couple, they all have one thing in common: the fragile balance between species, & the all important question of who do you really trust.
One of the things that really stands out is how real the emotions are here. Even with supernatural characters, the feeling of being alone, or being misunderstood – or just really wanting to belong – is all so very human.
The series kicks off with Book 1, Bride, and introduces us to Misery Lark – a Vampyre who’s spent most of her life feeling like a bit of an outsider, living among Humans. But all of a sudden, her ordinary world is turned upside down when she’s forced into a marriage which is designed to secure the peace between two conflicting sides. And yes, that’s a massive favor. The man she’s going to marry is Lowe Moreland – the stern & uncompromising Alpha of the Weres – and even though at first glance he looks like a tough guy, underneath that mask is a complicated character who’s very difficult to figure out. Their marriage is one of convenience rather than love, and the tension between them is evident right from the start. However, as days go by, they gradually get to know the real each other – & that’s when the fun begins.
During Book 2, Mate, the spotlight is on Serena Paris – a Human/Were hybrid with a difficult childhood. She has been chased, she is at risk & she has never really found a home. Nevertheless, beneath the layers, she is a hopeless romantic – & it’s something that really connects you with her character as you go through her narrative. She comes across Koen Alexander, the Alpha of the Northwest pack, & although they are very different, somehow he becomes her support – her refuge from the world. Koen is quite an imposing character, but what really distinguishes him is his absolute dedication to keep Serena safe, whatever the cost. Their love story is a rollercoaster of emotions, which touches on heavy subjects such as destiny, duty & making a choice to love despite calamity.
To sum up, the Bride series is a great read for anyone who is into deep paranormal romance. It goes beyond vampires & werewolves, it is about people who find connection, make sacrifices & love unconditionally. Ali Hazelwood offers a world which is not only full of risks, but also very warm & loving – so prepare yourself to dive into the world of Bride.
