About the Evil Series
The Evil Series, also known as the No Evil Trilogy, is a gripping crime thriller series from author Allison Brennan – born in 1969. Its one of her most well loved series and you can really see her style shining through here. The first book, Speak No Evil, came out in 2007 and just sets the tone right from the start – its a dark place we’re dropped into, and the author doesn’t try to sugarcoat the harsh realities of crime. In this world, murder is ugly, justice is not easy to come by, and the truth often gets buried. The series kicks off with the murder of 18 year old Angie Vance, a case that is just really upsetting and kind of stays with you. Her death sends shockwaves through the community and brings together Detective Carina Kincaid and Sheriff Nick Thomas, two people with their own emotional baggage, who are forced to put their pasts aside and work together to catch the killer.
In the second book, See No Evil, the mood shifts a bit. This time the focus is on how quick we are to jump to conclusions and and throw blame around. A young girl with a tough background is accused of murdering her stepfather, and from all the evidence it looks pretty cut and dried – but nothing about this case feels right or fair. You’ll get to go along for the ride with Julia Chandler, deputy district attorney, and Connor Kincaid, now a private investigator, as they attempt to uncover the truth and work through all the past hurts and trust that shake the two of them. What is interesting with regards to the Evil Series isnot the crimes but how they are interweaved with feelings. Brennan is an excellent writer because she writes characters with true feelings – fear, anger, love, loyalty – you can think about all these when writing thriller novels with crime as its core component. If you are interested in novels with crime as its core component because this is your favorite among all others, then you should definitely check out the Evil Series.
