About the Heart of Texas Series
If you like simple love stories in small towns you might like the Heart of Texas books by Debbie Macomber. They take place in a made up town called Promise, Texas. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows each other and when life gets tough they try to help each other out.
These books have been around since the late 90’s but they still feel current when it comes to love, family and second chances. At first the stories seem like regular romance but as you keep reading the characters start to feel real. Some have lost loved ones or been hurt in the past. They aren’t perfect but they’re good hearted and hopeful and that’s nice to follow.
Each book is about a different couple and how they find love. But it’s not just romance there’s a lot about family, friends and the town itself. Promise almost feels like a person sometimes. It brings people together and gives them a place to belong.
Some readers think there’s a little bit of mystery or magic in the background like something special happened in the town long ago. But most of the time the “magic” is just how people are there for each other.
One thing that’s nice is the books are clean there’s love and emotion but nothing too strong or graphic. So they’re good for all ages. Also the language is easy so if you’re learning English or just want something light they’re a good choice.
In the first book Lonesome Cowboy we meet Savannah Weston. She’s been living alone on her family’s ranch until a man named Laredo Smith comes into her life. Their story is sweet with real emotions and a few hard moments too.
Another book Texas Two-Step is about Glen and Ellie two friends who slowly figure out they might be more than just friends. There’s a little drama and a love triangle but it’s not too much. It feels natural.
As you read more of the series you’ll see familiar characters come and go kind of like a TV show where each episode brings something new but the people and place stay the same. Not going to blow your mind or be profound but warm and fuzzy. Love can still show up even when life isn’t easy. That’s what makes the Heart of Texas series so nice.
