About the Hussite Trilogy Series

In the Hussite Trilogy by Andrzej Sapkowski you’re seeing a 15th-century European landscape that’s ravaged by fear, faith, wars and impossible decisions. The story of Narrenturm kicks things off, centring around Reinmar of Bielawa, or Reynevan, a young medical student and herbalist whose life gets turned around by love, power struggles and religious disputes.

Well-known as a thinker, Reynevan initially expects the end of the world in 1420, but for him, everything else falls apart. He gets pulled into a treachery-ridden journey where his half-baked decisions send him to a perilous meeting place where knowledge, faith and staying alive are always being tested.

As God’s Warriors takes over, the scope of the story expands and the stakes become higher. Europe is ablaze with crusades against the Hussites and the Church demands that a holy war be fought. Coming from someone who wanted nothing to do with bloodshed, Reynevan now goes through the battlefields, dungeons and backstabbing corridors, with inquisitors, aristocrats, guns for hire and powerful bullies on his tail who all want revenge. Miraculously managing to get away from them, he keeps on moving, motivated by hope, pluck and the idea of what is right.

The last book, Lux Perpetua, tops the series off with its heart-wrenching emotional peak. Brutality is a given, life has become very cruel, and clemency is almost non-existent. Coming from someone who thought that he could change the world, Reynevan now lives in a world where the name of God is used to justify heinous acts. Yet still, he believes in a brighter future and spiritual renewal. Forced to become a spy, a killer, and a rebel, he is torn between his principles and the brutal reality.
