About the Isaac Bell Series
The Isaac Bell books are detective stories and old-school adventure. Clive Cussler was already a big action writer when he wrote these. They’re set in the early 1900s when trains, telegrams and big changes were happening in America. The main character Isaac Bell is a private detective for the Van Dorn Agency. This is a made up agency but based on the real Pinkerton Agency.
Isaac Bell is not like most detectives. He’s serious about his job, always focused and doesn’t give up. He’s tall, blond and thinks fast. He goes after bad guys and doesn’t stop until he catches them. In every book there’s a new case—sometimes it’s a bank robber, sometimes a saboteur—but Bell is always ready. What makes these different is how they mix crime solving with history. You see early inventions like steam trains, telegraphs and even battleships.
The first book The Chase introduces Bell and sets the tone for the rest of the series. It’s fast, fun and full of surprises. As the series goes on we get to know more about Bell’s personal life too. He meets and later marries Marion Morgan which brings a softer side to his character.
People who like historical fiction and detective stories love this series. The settings feel real, the action moves fast and Bell is the kind of hero you want to follow. No wonder this series made Clive Cussler one of the biggest writers in the genre.
