About the Marta’s Legacy Series

Marta’s Legacy is a powerful two-book series by the well-known author Francine Rivers that tells the story of four generations of women in an emotional way. The story looks at the deep, complicated relationships between mothers and daughters from the early 1900s to the present day. We meet Marta in Her Mother’s Hope. She is a strong-willed woman who leaves her home country of Switzerland to start a new life in America. She thinks that being strong and independent is the only way to survive, but this way of thinking makes her and her sweet daughter Hildie feel far apart. Hildie becomes a nurse and a mother during World War II, determined to show her love but making many of the same mistakes her mother did.

The story continues in Her Daughter’s Dream, where we follow Hildie’s daughter Carolyn and then her granddaughter Dawn. Through illness, war, misunderstanding and heartache each woman struggles to give what she never fully received. The generational wounds run deep but so does the hope for healing. This series shows how love can be complicated and redemptive and how forgiveness can mend even the most broken of family ties.
