About the Max & Maddy Series

Max & Maddy series by Alexander McCall Smith are collections of mystery stories which are totally fun for young readers or anyone who loves a good light-hearted detective story. The series features Max and Maddy Twist, a brother and sister duo who live in an environment filled with mystery and intrigue. Their parents ran a detective agency and so, the children have been exposed all their lives to tales of cases and criminals, even though the business has gone quiet now. The kids are initiated, constantly questioning, and eventually, it is evident that problem-solving comes to them quite naturally.

The first book, Max and Maddy and the Chocolate Money Mystery, has the siblings getting a case that initially looks pretty straightforward, but before you know it things start to spiral out of control and they’re off to another country chasing down some very unexpected leads. With plenty of disguises, laughs and surprises along the way its a great read for younger readers and the relationship between the two siblings has a lovely charm to it.

The adventure continues with Max & Maddy and the Bursting Balloons Mystery where things get a bit more serious. Someone is trying to sabotage a hot air balloon race and all sorts of weird accidents start to happen one after another. Max and Maddy have to stay cool, think on their feet, and make some connections so they can get in front of things before they go from bad to worse.
