About the Outlander Series
The Outlander series is written by Diana Gabaldon. It’s hard to categorize these books because they’re a mix of history, romance, adventure and time travel. The story starts in Scotland right after World War II. Claire Randall, a 1940s nurse, is on a trip with her husband when something strange happens. She visits a group of old standing stones and without knowing how she ends up in 1743. Now stuck in the past she must find a way to survive in a world so different from her own. While trying to figure things out she meets Jamie Fraser, a young Scottish man with a kind heart and strong convictions. What starts as a marriage of convenience slowly turns into real love. But life in 18th century Scotland is far from easy. There are wars, secrets and dangers everywhere. Claire is also torn between the man she loves in the past and the husband she left in the future.
Gabaldon’s writing brings the time and place to life. You can almost see the Scottish hills, feel the tension between the clans and hear the sound of horses on the dirt roads. The books are full of strong characters, emotional moments and real historical events. If you like to feel like you’re right there with the characters Outlander is a great choice. It’s more than just a love story – it’s a long journey through time full of surprises. Whether you’ve read many of the books or just starting the first one this series has a way of sucking you in. Once you start reading it’s hard to stop.
