Nora Pennington is the main character and runs a small bookstore located in the old train station. Nora is using other people’s stories to assist the people she meets.

After a difficult event in her life, Nora develops a close friendship with three other women. Similar to Nora, the women have each endured adversity; they have secrets. They become a group, committed to solving small-town mysteries and supporting one another. To become members of the group, each woman must tell the group painful truths. The act of honesty connects them further. They begin to meet and share stories, eventually connecting in a family manner.
