About the Secret Identity Series
The Secret Identity series by Alex Segura is something special if you love mystery or comic books. It’s got that old noir feel with the fun and color of superhero stories. What sets it apart is it looks behind the scenes of the comic world and shows the people who create these heroes and the struggles they face.
The first book, Secret Identity, is set in 1975. The main character, Carmen Valdez, works at Triumph Comics, a small company that’s not doing so great. She wants to write her own superhero one day even though women aren’t really given that chance back then. When she helps a coworker create The Lethal Lynx, Triumph’s first female hero, it feels like her big break. But things take a dark turn when her coworker ends up dead and her name is left off the project. Now Carmen has to fight for her place in a world that doesn’t want to see her win.
The second book, Alter Ego, is set in the present day. This time the story follows Annie Bustamante, a well known filmmaker and comic artist who gets to bring The Lethal Lynx back to life. For Annie it’s more than just a job — it’s personal. She’s loved this character since she was a kid. But soon she starts getting strange warnings and the whole thing feels like a trap than an opportunity. To tell the story her own way, Annie has to dig into the truth about who really owns The Lethal Lynx — and what was lost along the way.
The series is full of heart, secrets and love for the comic book world.
