The Terry McCaleb books are crime novels by Michael Connelly, who also wrote the Harry Bosch and Lincoln Lawyer series. These stories follow Terry McCaleb, a former FBI agent who had to retire early due to a serious heart condition. After a heart transplant, he tries to live a quiet life on his boat. But when a woman shows up and asks for his help, his life gets turned upside down. Her sister was murdered and the case doesn’t make sense. Even though he’s supposed to avoid stress, Terry feels he has to help. From that moment on, his peaceful life slowly turns back into one full of danger and mystery.

What we have here is that the series’ connection to Connelly’s other works is what really stands out. In come the Bosch characters and we see the story lines mesh in very unexpected ways. The crimes are complicated, the villains are sick and the tension is high.
