About the Young Corgi Series

The Young Corgi Series by Alexander McCall Smith is great for children, and it envelops readers in a warm, calming sensation. The stories are all very sweet, and good for children because they are focused on the smaller, more important aspects of life. Smith’s characters have a special relatability as they shine in the stories. The cloudiness of the English language is kept to a minimum, as the Author’s language is very easy to read for children and non-native readers. For readers with more background in English, the stories are still easy to read and well developed. The series starts with Alix & The tigers, who is a character that follows her heart, leading her to a big adventure with two tigers who have just escaped the zoo. Smith adds a more ominous tone to the story, as Alix discovers that a mean hunter is on the tigers’ trail, and Alix has to be quick to help the tigers before they get hurt.

In the upcoming story, Suzy The Magician, has a more cheerful tone as it tells the story of Suzy trying to get into the magic school of Professor Cadabra – a big shot, world renowned trickster. What it demonstrates is that it is often not enough to just have ability. One must also have the perseverance, the commitment & the self-belief to turn ones aspirations into reality. Moving on, the third book of the series introduces us to Tim, a meek little boy who lives with his very neat aunt who’s a bit of a stickler for the rules – but then his uncle does him a big favour & whips up a tin dog – and off they go to the circus where things get a bit more complicated than they anticipated.
